Clubs of Conant: Paranormal Club

Being home to 80+ clubs ranging from cultural awareness to academic competition, Conant really does have something for everyone. In this series, the Crier will help spread the word about lesser-known clubs in the hopes of helping students find where they belong.

The 2023-2024 Paranormal Club with psychic/medium Chris Fleming.

Do you have a fascination with ghouls and ghosts? Are you interested in exploring the possibility of the paranormal? Have you always wanted to explore horrifying haunts? Then Paranormal Club is for you!

Every other Wednesday, Paranormal Club meets in room 119 until 4:40 to discuss different paranormal phenomena through teacher and member-led presentations.

Frequently, they host guest speakers who come in to talk about their paranormal experiences. Members of the club have been able to speak with and hear from the likes of Chris Fleming, Dave Schrader, and other local and global ghost investigators/authors. Second-year club member Anna Drone is excited about some new additions to the guest speaker list this year “…we’re very lucky to have Cody and Satori as seen on Sam and Colby’s recent conjuring series zoom in with us this year!”

Ms. Michelle Diaz, Paranormal Club sponsor, believes that the guest speakers are what makes the club so special and different from anything else at Conant, “I am friends with many celebrities that appear on TV shows in the ghost hunting field. They have all been so excited to speak to the club and volunteer an hour of their time.”

Paranormal club is also a great club for freshmen and students with no prior experience to join. Alyssa Serafini, ‘28, is excited to join Paranormal Club this year, “There are so many different areas of expertise and history to read about…This club is the perfect opportunity that’s never been available to me before!”

The club has participated in popular Conant events, including the annual Trunk-Or-Treat event, and is planning to expand their activities this year with a new spooky event, “This year we plan on doing… a ghost hunt in Aurora!” Diaz says.

Diaz explains that she has always been surrounded by conversations of paranormal activity “I grew up hearing about the haunted house that my mom, aunts and uncles grew up in, and all the paranormal happenings that had occurred,” When she started high school, she was disappointed to find out that there weren’t any communities for people with similar interests. “I wanted to start a group where students like myself can talk about this subject, share experiences, learn, have fun, and fit in a group when other groups may not be for them,”

When asked why she thinks students should consider joining Paranormal club, Diaz said “To have this opportunity is huge and it allows for students, believers and non-believers alike, to enjoy a good time, experience new things and talk about a topic that is no longer taboo,”

According to Drone, “if you have any curiosity or fascination with the afterlife…I highly recommend joining! We’re a really fun group, and we have goldfish every meeting…Come check it out!”

They’ve already had their first meeting of the school year, but don’t worry, they’re still accepting members! If you’re interested in learning more about Paranormal club, reach out to Diaz at [email protected]. Happy haunting!
