Free Papa John’s sandwich for participating in Conant’s blood drive

It is estimated that about 1 in 7 patients in hospitals will require at least one blood transfusion, a medical procedure that involves being injected with donated blood. In fact, every two seconds, a new patient is in need of donor blood.

By participating in Conant’s blood drive in the atrium on Friday, February 23 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m, Conant students and staff have the ability to save and drastically improve the lives of people diagnosed with illnesses that cause anemia, those who have suffered life-threatening accidents, and many more who are in dire need of donor blood.

In exchange for their participation, donors will receive a coupon for a Papadilla flatbread sandwich from Papa John’s

CNA instructor Vicky DeGuia is in charge of facilitating the Vitalant blood drive. “Each pint donated can save three lives. Be the reason for someone’s heartbeat,” she said.

Participants must be at least 16 years old. During the week of February 20, all forms will be available for sign up during all lunch periods in the cafeteria. For students 16 years of age, there is an additional Vitalant form that must be filled out before participating in the blood drive. For all students, regardless of age, these forms must be signed by a parent or guardian.

For those who plan to participate, it is recommended to eat a nutritious breakfast and drink plenty of water before donating. The week of the blood drive, it is helpful to incorporate iron rich foods into a daily diet. Those with questions can reach out to Mrs. DeGuia at [email protected].
