Winter Formal: Step into the enchanted forest
Get ready for an unforgettable evening as Student Council transforms Conant’s gym into an “Enchanted Forest” for this year’s Winter Formal. The event, happening tonight from 7 to 10 p.m., will feature dazzling lights, haze, and music from Conant alumni DJ Adeous.
Planning for the Winter Formal began as early as last year, with detailed preparations kicking off in November. Hallway decorations, organized in small teams of student council members, were completed earlier this week. The theme was chosen through a collaborative process involving the entire student body in early October. “We brainstormed a bunch of ideas as a council, and then we put them on Instagram for students to vote on,” explained Student Council member, Anishka Vora, ’25. “And then we had a winner announcement for the theme on Instagram.”
Student Council advisor David Moravek highlighted the quality and effort that goes into the Winter Formal. “You’re not just getting a disco ball and a DJ with a subwoofer. You know, you’re getting a high-quality event [and] commercial-grade production. We hire the best and expect an outstanding performance.”
Moravek also encouraged all students to attend the event. “There’s only two opportunities a year where our student body can really come together, dress up, look nice, and socialize in a non-pressure environment… We have great sound, great music, and really cool lighting, so it should be a lot of fun!”
Winter Formal is uniquely significant for Student Council. Unlike homecoming, which senior members lead, this event is when juniors take the lead, guided by senior mentors. “It’s their time to shine,” said another Student Council member, Crystal Park, ’25. “We’re on standby if they need us, but this is their chance to take leadership and execute their ideas.”
Beyond the fun and exciting atmosphere of school spirit, the event has a meaningful cause. “We are supporting Lurie Children’s & Rush Hospital with any profits we make from the dance and T-shirt sales that also support families and research to stop pediatric cancer,” Moravek said. “More than the dance itself, that’s the most important part,” Vora added.
“I look forward to just seeing kids have fun… It’s also a lot of fun out there. It’s a pretty exciting environment—always on the dance floor!” Moravek said.
