Medical Careers Club hosting annual blood drive November 1
Conant’s Medical Careers club is hosting a blood drive in the atrium on Friday, November 1, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Conant students and staff can save and drastically improve the lives of people diagnosed with illnesses that cause anemia, those who have suffered life-threatening accidents, and many more who are in dire need of donor blood.
In exchange for participating, donors will receive a coupon for a Papadilla flatbread sandwich from Papa John’s.
Current Medical Careers club member Alicja Czerw, ‘25, believes all able students should donate. “[Donating blood] is an easy and quick process, and you’re giving back to people in your community. You never know what can happen…When you give, someone lives,” Czerw said.
Participants must be at least 16 years old. During the week of October 28, forms will be available for sign-up during all lunch periods in the cafeteria. For students 16 years of age, an additional Vitalant form must be filled out before participating. For all students, regardless of age, these forms must be signed by a parent or guardian. The required forms for students 17 or older are linked to the QR code in the form, and those 16 years old are required to sign up in the cafeteria.
There are additional health requirements for blood donation. See the Vitalant blood donation requirements to ensure your eligibility.
For those who plan to participate, it is recommended to eat a nutritious breakfast and drink plenty of water before donating. During the week of the blood drive, it is helpful to incorporate iron-rich foods into a daily diet. Those with questions can reach out to Mrs. DeGuia at [email protected].
