Robotics Club to host STEM Fair

Conant’s Robotics Club will host a STEM Fair in the atrium this Saturday, September 28. Doors open at 10:00 a.m. and will close at 12:00 a.m.

The fair is open to Conant families with younger kids, but aimed towards kids who will be attending Conant High School in the future. Most activities target kids aged 8+, though there are opportunities for everyone, regardless of age.

Chris Bruce, one of the sponsors of the Robotics Club, advises attendees to “show up and have fun. We’re here to make sure everybody has a good time. [Almost everything is] hands-on; go play, have a good time!”

At the fair, attendees can expect to learn more about Vex building, Vex programming, Minibots, and making toy cars. Bruce describes Minibots as half-pound 3D-printed robots that represent robotics on a miniature scale. In the robot playground, attendees will be able to control the Minibots, trying to put their opponents in a pit. The first competitor to pit their opponent five times will win the round. The Robotic Club’s full-size robots will also be on display during the event.

The fair is intended to “raise awareness about Robotics Club before our competitions,” Bruce said. After the fair, the Robotics Club will be preparing for its annual tournament, which will be held at the Elk Grove High School Field House on March 1. This event is open to anyone interested in watching.
