Crier Wants to Know: How was your experience voting?
This past Tuesday, schools were closed for Election Day, giving many Conant seniors who recently turned 18 the chance to vote for the first time. The Crier asked these first-time voters to share their experiences at the polls—what surprised them, what they found interesting, and what aspects they enjoyed or didn’t enjoy. Here’s what they had to say.

“So I went to Michael Collins Elementary and I didn’t know how the process worked, really, so I was kind of confused on what to do, but it was nice because there were students there helping me around. Something that was surprising was that I found after that you can vote for whoever you want. So there’s just random celebrities and they have random people voting for them instead of the other [candidates].”

“I was surprised at how easy it was because I was really scared and I was nervous that I was gonna do something wrong the whole time. But when I went it was so easy and so simple. I also didn’t know who a lot of the [candidates] were, so that kind of threw me off. So I just voted for the people that I knew, and the rest I didn’t.”

“I was surprised how long the wait was. It was an hour and a half. It was easy once you were done waiting, [but] there were just so many people. I remember going with my parents when I was little and it was never that long of a wait. Normally you just walk in and leave, and when I went you had to wait; there was such a long line.”

“I felt it was a little underwhelming going to the polls. It’s a good thing that you’re doing, but I feel the actual going to the poll and doing it… there’s not much to do other than pressing some buttons for a candidate. I also found it interesting because I had to register when I was there, how little security there was to register to vote. Because I grabbed the wrong passport and they still let me register. So I found that kind of odd about how easy it was.”
