This Valentine’s Day, love is in the air at Conant High school. Valentine and Galentine romances are blossoming across the building. Three of these couples- both students and teachers- put their compatibility to the test by going head-to-head with their S.O.’s best friend.

Gabbi Zyung, ‘25, and Isha Mindanao, ‘25, have been best friends for the last four and a half years. Zyung and her boyfriend R.J. Santos, ‘25, has been dating for 11 months. Mindanao and Zyung put their friendship to the test. “I’ll blow this out of the ball park,” Mindanao says.

Priya Deshmukh, ‘25, and Kenny Karlapudy, ‘25, have been together for one year and four months. But Deshmukh’s friendship with Dhriti Dalal, ‘25, has lasted for five years. “I am so confident that I know Priya,” Dalal said. Karlapudy expressed similar feelings, saying “I feel very confident in my knowledge of Priya.” Now who knows Deshmukh better: Dalal or Karlapudy?

Math teachers Jeffrey Melone and Christina Schweinebraten-Melone have been married for five and a half years. But Schweinebraten-Melone’s twin sister, wellness teacher Amanda Schweinebraten, has known her since birth. Can Melone prove how well he knows his wife? He believes so, but worries about his competition. “I feel confident that I know Mrs. Schweinebraten-Melone, but maybe not as well as her twin does…” he said.

Being someone’s S.O. or best friend doesn’t mean one automatically knows that person better than the other. Clearly love–both platonic and romantic–is in the air at Conant!
