Crier Wants to Know: Fire alarms?
With the number of times the fire alarm goes off due to an accident or a student vaping in the bathroom, it seems like Conant doesn’t need planned fire drills anymore. This year we’ve already had more than one unplanned disruption in our school day. The Crier asked students about their view on the numerous alarms.
“I think they’re really dumb because, first of all, they waste so much time. Second of all, if it’s in the winter we have to stand out there and it’s really cold and it just causes more sickness around the school. But yeah, I wish people would a) stop vaping and b) just be more careful around fire hazards and we wouldn’t have to go through all the trouble.
“It felt really annoying, especially because it was so cold out, and I didn’t even have my jacket that day. People should stop vaping.”
“I think it’s too much. There are too many fire alarms. I was in a different school last year and we only had one. Here there’s too many.”
“These fire alarms are unproductive, as we students have to bear the cold and our jackets are in the lockers. It also takes up our class periods and valuable school time.”
Mary Toman, Computer Science Teacher
“These fire alarms are never serious events, it’s frustrating, and fire alarms seem like a joke now. It eats up the entire class time, and now every period of the same course is at different stages.”
